Youth training and conditioning at Crossroads Sports. Core balance and stability is very important for many sports disciplines. Whether it’s for hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, volleyball, track etc.
Bob Acton trying out our new indoor synthetic ice rink. This skill development pad is excellent for skating, edge work, stick handling and shooting. Come and try it out for yourself and take your game to the next level.

Now that we have all put Thanksgiving in the rear view mirror and have completed several practices and games, it is time to put the pedal to the metal.
The two skills that separate success and frustration in hockey are skating and shooting and without strength and practice, the road will be a long and arduous one.
Many parents unfortunately think that buying an expensive composite stick or the newest vapor skate is the answer and sadly this is simply pouring more fuel on the fire.
In order to skate fast, children must be able to generate power that will allow them to drive their edges into the ice. Because most children have tight hamstrings, weak quadriceps and glutes, this is not possible.
To become a proficient scorer requires the ability to develop skills in forehand wrist-shot, backhand wrist-shot, back-hand off a deke, snap-shot, snap-shot off wrong foot, slap-shot (low, high),close in forehand “roofing it” shot, close in backhand “roofing it” shot.
This is not possible without proper technique, strong legs, wrists and forearms and balance on your skates.
Before you know it Christmas will be here and the panic mode will set in, as parents begin to shudder at the thought that their child, may not get an invite for next year, with the team they are presently playing with.
My hockey school will get busier as parents search for the miracle cure that they feel I possess, yet there is not short term cure, just a bandage and they eventually fall off.
It is time that your committed to a program that over the long haul will provide your child with the confidence that is needed to achieve their goals. So many kids lack confidence and they are swimming in very dangerous waters, when it comes to poor nutrition and conditioning.
Parents are so busy trying to balance their own busy schedules and pay the bills, that they will do anything to keep their kid happy. If that means a Gatorade after practice and games, or a trip to McDonalds or Kentucky Fried Chicken so be it. They know that poor hydration can lead to serious health issues, yet they continue to give their children juice boxes full of sugar and empty calories.
The most common line I hear from parents is that their child doesn’t eat, but they drink lots of juice. The sugar gives them a full feeling because of the high sugar content, but once they crash, they are dehydrated, so they ask for more juice. The parent thinks Vitamin C is awesome for the children, so they just reach for another juice box.
When you have a free moment I encourage you to visit us at www.crossroadssportsacademy.com. We have just opened our doors and already are making a difference in many children’s lives. Confidence, healthiness, and better skills at the sport they and their parents love.
